SHSGA Community Programs

Our Community Programs utilize a multi-level approach aimed at building bridges with underserved communities in the Twin Cities area, introducing youth to golf, and providing foundational knowledge and resources that allow students of all skill levels to develop confidence and spark interest in playing golf.

PURPOSE

To build enthusiasm and awareness for the SHSGA with students of all ages and their families, grow the legacy of Solomon Hughes Sr., and serve as an opportunity to work alongside like-minded community members, organizations, and small businesses.

STUDENTS

Our range of Community Programs are built for boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 18, along with their families. No previous golf experience is required and equipment is provided for each session.

SUMMER CAMPS

SHSGA Summer Camps are regularly scheduled one-day camps throughout June, July, and August – geared toward Middle School students wanting to learn more about the game of golf. Camps do not require any previous experience or equipment and are at no cost to participants.

Supported by The Sanneh Foundation, SHSGA Fellowship Team students, the University of Minnesota, and The First Tee held at Highland National Golf Course in St. Paul.

OPEN PLAY

SHSGA Open Play provides students and families of all ages and skill levels an opportunity to get out and play golf together. Hosted by SHSGA, The University of Minnesota, and our Circle of Champions in collaboration with Youth On Course and Top Golf, Open Play reserves tee time blocks at local courses and Top Golf with individuals and families able to register through our website.

These are reserved on a first come basis and are at no cost to participants with equipment provided for the day if needed.

Please fill out the form at the bottom of this page if you or your student are interested in Open Play sessions.

STREET GOLF

SHSGA Street Golf is a youth-focused, family friendly outreach and introductory program to the game of golf. Casual in structure, we bring the basics to neighborhoods and community events in order to teach the foundations of a golf swing and build bridges with our community through pop-up “play” sessions.

No previous experience or equipment required. Street Golf is an opportunity for us to develop relationships with community members and a stepping stone for students wanting to attend additional SHSGA programs.

IN-SCHOOL SEMINARS

A custom-built ‘introduction to golf’ program delivered in schools and community centers across the Twin Cities. Students are not required to have any previous golf experience. These sessions are taught in a fun, game-based learning environment with a focus on foundational skills (swing mechanics, general rules, and course etiquette). Students interested in further development opportunities are invited to attend additional SHSGA programs with their families.

Please fill out the form at the bottom of this page if your school would be interested in working with SHSGA for an in-school session.
